As a 100+ hours-volunteer at Roskilde Festivals IT department I am, alongside a team of four people, given the task to develop the app FELICYA which is an acronym for Festival Lifecycle Analysis.
The purpose of the app is to calculate the carbon footprint of the different projects and scenes build on the festival. Those who are responsible for building the material is to use it before and during the building process to be conscious about what material they use.
When the user is logged in eventually the app will display the carbon footprint of all the users projects and furthermore visualize what the amount of CO2 is equivalent in hours of flight and other polluting activities.
Challenge
Building an app that calculates the carbon footprint of material used in a project has many challenges – the biggest being what metrics to use when calculating the material.
We have had serveral meetings with stakeholders in order to agree on this topic as it is crucial for the models from which the data is drawn from.
As frontend designer of the team, I had the task of transforming and itterate on the initial designconcepts provided by the previous team. Two other teams had started but cancelled the work due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Solution so far
The app is scheduled to be done in 2023 when participants of the 51th edition of Roskilde Festival starts to plan building their projects for the festival.
This page will be updated as the project progresses.
