Wholi Foods

VINYL DESIGN – CONCEPTUAL DESIGN -PRINT

Brief

How do we make future generations eat more sustainable food sources such as insects?

I teamed up with Wholi Foods (Now Hey Planet) to create a visual identity for their insectbased products such as protein bars, date/chocolate-snacks etc. all containing insect flour from buffalo worms and crickets.

Challenge

The overall challenge of this project was to create unique patters that made room for title, images, track list. Another challenge was to create a readable yet surreal logotype that blended into the pattern.

Solution

The final design contains four The pattern unique, drawn through automation. e.g.  me sitting down for approximately 3 to 5 hours with coffee and vinyls on the recordplayer.

The goal of the project was to create packaging for the products that would not scare of kids from eating products that contains insects.

I designed three design suggestions based on the theory of visual differential by Robert Manning who presented a set of scales on which a designer could determine whether a design is of high or low literacy, e.g. Being a close to direct visual representation of an phenomena.

I used the three designs in order to examine whether a more or less abstract representation of the ingredients would make the design and concept of edible insect more appealing to the consumer (Kids/Parents).
In the end the products with the most literal visual depiction of the product where the favorites among the testers of products and I progressed to design a variety of package design for insect based food.

The final Final package design is shown below.
